European Youth Debating Competition

connecting European young leaders

How can we conserve energy, protect our environment, and simultaneously enable technological progress in the future? These are questions that currently stir decision-makers in business, science and politics worldwide.

In various countries of the European Union and in Turkey, young opinion leaders debate about the topic “Energy and Climate Protection” according to the Anglo-Saxon debating rules.

Five speakers each (fixed speakers) represent the pro and con faction. The remaining participants (free speakers) simulate the public. Jury members from science, business, media, and politics select the winners. The criteria are ability to express oneself, factual knowledge, persuasiveness, and ability to interact with others.

Our series of debating competitions began in 2007 in Berlin and London. Further stops along the way were, among others, Warsaw, Milan, Stockholm, Zagreb, Ljublana, Paris, Wiesbaden, Istanbul, Palermo, Bologna, and Dusseldorf.

The European finals have previously taken place, for example, in the European Parliament in Brussels or in the Villa Borghese in Rome, where the Treaties of Rome were once signed.
